The wall of the hollow fibre (1) has a low modulus of elasticity and a high breaking elongation chosen so that it can be dilated by pressure in its central cavity (2). Expansion in the axial direction is prevented in places by stretch-resistant but pliable elements (3) while radial expansion is contained by stretch-resistant rings or helices (4). An alternative embodiment has three hollow fibres combined into one structure for capability of curvature in more than one direction according to liq. or gas pressure distribution.
