Exhaust silencer for two stroke engine

The silencer has chambers (13 14) which are split by a dividing wall (16) such that the first chamber (13) receives the exhaust gas direct from the engine and the second chamber (14) has a catalytic element (15) and is connected to atmosphere by an outlet pipe (17). The outlet pipe extends through the first chamber and conducts the treated gas to atmosphere. An outer pipe (19) encloses the outlet pipe and acts with the outlet pipe to form a through passage (20) through which the exhaust gas flows to be heated before reaching the catalytic element.
