Electron beam welding appts. for two cylindrical components (1a, 1b) assembled one on top of the other with a chamfered joint. Using the walls of the components, a leak-tight chamber (36) is assembled (35, 37, 45) with inflatable seals and the electron beam inside, the chamber is evacuated and the beam rotates to effect a weld from the inside. Alignment and coverage of the weld is monitored on a video system.
