For the ironing of garments, esp. in a laundry, the garments are drawn over shapers at a loading station to be moved into an ironing station. During their movement, the shapers are smoothly accelerated and/or braked. Also claimed is an assembly with a controlled drive with at least one drive motor with a controlled speed.
