Thiosulfonate esters have been found to improve resistance to fog, shelf-life stability, and post-processing stability of photothermographic imaging elements. These elements comprise: (a) a photosensitive silver halide; (b) a non-photosensitive, reducible silver source; (c) a reducing agent for the non-photosensitive, reducible silver source; (d) a binder; and (e) a thiosulfonate ester of the formula: R<1>-SO2-SR<2> wherein: R<1> and R<2> independently represent an alkyl group, an aryl group, an aralkyl group, an alkaryl group, or an alkenyl group.
