A shed forming appts. including a cylinder (1), a horizontal needle (5), a vertical needle (9) and a set of knives(10, 10a) provides double opening sheds on one reciprication of the knives. The cylinder having a polygonal surface, pref. dodecagonal, comprises a stop means and an intermittent rotation driving means for allowing the intermittent rotation angle of the cylinder to be exactly adjusted. The vertical needle has two butts (9b, 9c) coupled with each knife and an upper claw (9a) coupled with the claw (16) of a needle holder (11). The upper knife coupled with the upper butt is raised up to hang the vertical needle to the needle holder while the lower knife is lowered. Thus the knives arranged to be moved in opposite direction may help the appts. make double sheds on one reciprocation.
