The aromatic urethane of formula (I) pref. N-phenyl carbamate methyl or N-phenyl carbamate ethyl is continuously prepared by reacting a N,N'-di(substd.) urea deriv.of formula (II) with a hydroxy-contg. compound of formula (III) in the absence of a catalyst in the slurry reactor, and then reacting it in the tubular reactor. In the formulas, Ar is aromatic gp. (un)substd. with halogen, alkyl or alkoxy; R is methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, isobutyl, t-butyl or aromatic gp. (un)substd. with halogen, alkyl or alkoxy.
