PURPOSE:To concentrate air-fuel mixture in the vicinity of the ignition plug position in a cylinder so as to improve ignitability at the time of lean combustion by preventing ununiformity of air-fuel mixture distribution inside the cylinder, uniformalizing it, and selecting supply direction of atomized fuel. CONSTITUTION:Fuel injected fro a fuel injection device 21 and atomized by colliding with an intake valve 14 flows into a combustion chamber 19 from this side of the intake valve 14. On the other hand, the high speed air flow from a bypass passage 10 flows from the ignition plug 16 side of the intake valve 14 into the combustion chamber 19, and then tumble flow is formed inside the combustion chamber 19. Consequently, ignitability is good since the air-fuel mixture distribution inside the cylinder can be uniformalized or, can be stratified, and further stable combustion with lean air-fuel mixture can be gained since the combustion is expedited by swirl flow generated inside the cylinder. Fuel consumption is then decreased, and additionally, quantities of HC and NOx can be remarkably decreased. |
