[Also in Divisions E2 and F2] A socket lining of a ball and socket joint is applied directly to the ball member by drawing a resin-treated disc 31, peripherally clamped by spring-mounted ring 16, into a hemispherical female mould cavity 6 using the ball member as the male drawing tool. The drawn sheet is retained against the ball member by a resilient ring 32 initially located in the mould cavity. The lined ball member is subsequently removed and a metal socket member 38 is stuck over the lining by means of a bonding layer 39 of e.g. phenol resin and asbestos, the ball being movable relative to the lined socket thus formed. |
