发明名称 PROCESS FOR EMBOSSING PLASTIC MATERIALS AND ACTIVATOR INK THEREFOR
摘要 1,147,983. Embossed expanded plastics. FISONS INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS Ltd. 23 May, 1966 [12 June, 1965; 1 Oct., 1965], Nos. 24906/65 and 41858/65. Headings C3C, C3P and C3R. [Also in Division B2] A sheet of thermoplastic polymeric material containing a blowing agent is embossed by a selective expansion process which comprises coating parts of the sheet with an activator ink containing a kicker for the blowing agent and heating the whole so that in those areas of the sheet in contact with the kicker composition the blowing agent is decomposed more than in the remaining areas causing differential expansion of the sheet. The thermoplastic material may be a polyamide, e.g. polycaprolactam or polyaminoundecanoic acid, or polyester, e.g. terephthalate polyesters, or a polyolefine, polymethylmethacrylate, a polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate. The preferred blowing agent is azodicarbonamide. The expandable mix is preferably in the form of a plastisol and suitable plasticizers include phthalates and phosphoric acid esters. Stabilizers may also be incorporated in the plastisol and these include salts such as basic lead phosphite, lead carbonate and phthalate, zinc oxide, barium and cadmium octoate, caproate, laurate and myristate and combinations of barium, zinc and cadmium fatty acid soaps. The plastisol may also incorporate dyes or pigments, diluents and fillers. The activator ink consists essentially of a mixture of a solution or dispersion of the kicker and a solution or dispersion of a film former or binder resin and a dye or pigment. Kicker compounds may include zinc oxide, octoate or nitrate, zinc fatty acid soaps, cadmium octoate, caproate, laurate or myristate, cadmium fatty acid soaps, lead carbonate, phthalate, phosphite or stearate, urea, borax, ethanolamine, glycols and other blowing agents. The plastisol may be applied to a backing, which may be a resinous material or other type of fabric, gelled to a tack-free state by heating, the activator ink applied to the gelled surface by a conventional printing technique and the whole reheated preferably in the range 150- 210‹ C. A wear layer of a thermoplastic material may also be applied to the printed and gelled plastisol. Uses.-Flooring, wall and ceiling covering materials.
