CONSTITUTION:A parallel circuit H of a capacitor 135i and a resistor 136i is formed for every data signal line Xi individually, and a diode 132i is connected to a corresponding write pulse generation part 131i in series through the parallel circuit H. Then, the write pulse Vw from the write pulse generation part 131i is converted to the write pulse Vw1 by the parallel circuit H, and the converted write pulse Vw1 and a maintenance pulse Vsus from a maintenance pulse generation part 134 are superposed by diodes 132i, 133i, and the superposed pulse is supplied to the data signal line Xi. Thus, the initial stage part of the first driving pulse V1 is raised rapidly, and the discharge light emission is started in the steep initial stage part. Moreover, the wave height value of the later term stage part of the first driving pulse V1 is lowered rapidly.
