Heading C2C. 5 - Propargyloxymethyl - 2 - oxazolidinones of Formula I in which R is (a) a saturated or unsaturated C 1-6 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical; or (b) an aminoalkyl radical of formula in which n is 1 to 4 and each of R 1 and R 2 is a C 1-5 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, or -NR 1 R 2 represents a heterocyclic ring; or (c) an araliphatic hydrocarbon radical; or (d) a phenyl radical which may be substituted by one or more of the following atoms or radicals: halogen atoms, C 1-4 alkoxy, amino, nitro, acetamido, trifluoromethyl, hydroxy, acetoxy, propionyloxy, hydrazinocarbonyl, carboxy, carboxymethyl, C 1-4 alkoxy-carbonyl, C 1-4 alkoxycarbonyl-methyl or C 1-5 aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals, or acyl radicals of formula -CO-R 3 , R 3 being a C 1-4 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical; or (e) an α- or #-naphthyl radical, are prepared by (i) reacting a compound of Formula II with phosgene, in an organic solvent, at a temperature below 50‹ C. and in the presence of an alkaline agent; or (ii) reacting a compound of Formula III with an alkaline agent, in an organic solvent at a temperature below 40‹ C.; or (iii) for compounds I in which R is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl or α- or #-naphthyl radical, by reacting 1 - propargyloxy - 2,3 - epoxypropane of Formula IV with a substituted urethane of Formula V in the presence of a tertiary amine and at the melting temperature of the reactants. Pharmaceutical compositions having myorelaxing, sedative, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, tranquillizing, antiphlogistic and anticonvulsive properties, comprise a compound of Formula I together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.</p> |
