In a process to treat effluent water bearing a load of organic effluent, macromolecules and/or microorganisms are converted into materials which may be broken down using biological aerobic or anaerobic processes.An electric voltage is applied to an aq. suspension of macromolecules and/or microorganisms and the treated soln. or suspension is then subjected to an aerobic or anaerobic process of break down.The electrical current is also applied to a continual flow of suspended macromolecules and/or microorganisms.
