Various methods are known for data representation, a number of which describe encoding/compression of data, using "dictionaries" or references to recurring sequences of bytes, and mapping of frequent events onto the short codes. The method, device, and system according to the invention constitute a representation method using a priori knowledge, stored in a so-called a priori model, holding information on many forms of dependencies among parts of the data. The method can also be used for automatic learning by adapting the a priori model according to processed data.
