A tag 10 is attached to a coiled cable 11 by opening the coils of the cable slightly, flexing the tag 10 so as to open up a part of the plastics on either side of a cut 13 on the tag, threading the cable through that opened part until the opening 12 surrounds the cable and then releasing the coil and tag such that the plastics resumes its generally planar shape. The side walls of the tag that define the opening 12 prevent detachment of the tag from the cable. The coils of the cable 11 exert a force on the tag.
