The method for displaying an impossibility of a timer reservation recording operation in a video cassette recorder having a timer reservation recording function, comprises the steps of: determining whether or not the timer reservation is set; checking the power-on state if the timer reservation is set; outputting an alarm sound by a buzzer if it is the timer reservation recording time at the power-on state, and displaying an impossibility of reservation recording operation; performing the reservation recording operation in the reservation recording time if the recordable tape is mounted at the power-off state; and notifying the recording-impossible state if the tape is not mounted at the power-off state or a non-recordable tape is mounted.
