The appts. comprises a chamber housing and containers for a sample to be treated. A number of sample containers are provided in the chamber and an arrangement for bringing the temperature of the sample in a container to a desired value and holding it at that value. The sample containers each consist of at least one thin conduit (17) wound into a spiral. The spiral is arranged in a closed vessel which comprises two passages (20, 21) for the two ends of the conduit and an opening (26) for introducing a suitable liquid into the vessel around the spiral.
