Method for surface treatment of metals and alloys by electrolytic etching

The method concerns surface treatment of metals and alloys by electrolytic etching in a medium contg. halogenides, in particular, as prepn. for adhesive bonding with the same or a different material. The specimen is etched in the vicinity of a current maximum lying in the active-passive transition region of the 'current density-potential' curve. The current flowing through the specimen during the etching process is measured and, with the use of a computerised control system, is adjusted to the current maximum or to a predetermined value relative to the current maximum.
