The free surface or measurement gap is formed by slots in the outer surface or by an element of a cylinder enclosing the float body fitted into the outer surface. The slot shapes influence the dependency of the float body height setting on the flow. The slots can be rectangular, their profile can be flow optimised or their profile can be of cylindrical section. The measurement cylinder and float body are coaxial.
