The sections of the couch surface are attached to a frame (1), the sections supporting the thighs and shins (3,4) hinging together. The thigh section is adjustable for angle on the frame. This section also has a mechanism (21,22) adjusting it telescopically. It can comprise two transverse (12,15) and two side (14) beams, each of the latter having inner and outer halves (14.1,14.2) joined to the transverse beams. A shaft in bearings in the outer halves and engaging in fixed racks (17) slides the outer halves on the inner ones. The racks can be fixed to the second transverse beam, and the shaft can mesh with them via countersunk (sic) teeth.
