A pour-on formulation containing a therapeutically effective amount of a tra ce element chosen from the group comprising selenium, copper, cobalt and iodine, in an aqueous or non-aqueous carrier. A non-aqueo us formulation contains selenium dioxide dissolved in bu tyl dioxitol. An aqueous pour-on contains selenium selenate with keltrol, a wett ing agent and water.
