Ceramic coating of metallic, esp. steel, or ceramic substrates

Metallic and ceramic materials are coated with at least one ceramic layer contg. finely distributed metal cpd. by a process in which a principally saturated or colloidal soln. contg. at least one suitable precursor of the required metal cpd. is applied to the material surface, allowed to dry to form a very adhesive, crystalline layer, and, finally, subjected to thermal treatment. Also claimed is a coated ceramic or metallic substrate prepared by the claimed process.
