Appts. has a vertical elongate reactor vessel (50) and a vertically elongate riser reactor (10) whose outlet is connected to a cyclone (20). The vessel has a plenum (40) for gas withdrawal at its top and a catalyst stripper (51) at its bottom. The cyclone is outside the reactor vessel, has a vapour outlet (26) connected to the plenum, an elongate dipleg (24) connecting the bottom of the cyclone to the vessel adjacent the stripper and a conduit (28) allowing stripper gas to move between the cyclone and the vessel.
