[Also in Division A5] Novel S-alkyl or aryl-substituted 1-(disubstituted piperidinecarbothioates) having the general formula wherein R is an alkyl, chloroalkyl, phenyl or C 1 -C 4 alkyl-substituted phenyl radical and X and Y are methyl or ethyl radicals, are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula in the presence of water or an organic solvent. An example describes the preparation of the derivative in which R is isopropyl, X is 5- ethyl and Y is 2-methyl, but many others are also mentioned. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of an acid acceptor, at atmospheric pressure and a temperature of from 20‹ C. to the boiling point of the solvent. The products may be used as herbicides. |
