A method for making ferrous metal having highly improved resistance to corrosion and oxidization, comprised of hot-dipping a ferrous workpiece (I) in a molten Al or Al alloy having a temp. of 750-930≦̸C for 30-300 sec., Primary heating of (I) for at least 30 min. at a temp. of 700-930≦̸C, and secondary heating of (I) for not more than 10 hours at a temp. of 950-1350≦̸C, thereby the intermetallic compd. layer contained iron and Al as its principle components had a surface portion containing on Al-Cr compd..
