1,199,887. Lyophilized aloe gel. J. R. MARSH. 29 April, 1969, No. 21779/69. Heading A5B. Lyophilized aloe gel in the form of dry anhydrous crystals is prepared by removing the gel from the leaves of an aloe plant, preferably the aloe vera plant, macerating the gel in a container, screening or filtering the macerated gel, placing the screened or filtered gel in containers within a freezing machine, freezing the gel to from 0‹C to -120‹C. and administering a vacuum to the frozen gel in the containers until anhydrous crystals of the gel remain in the containers. Reconstituted aloe gel, having the same physical and chemical properties as aloe gel prior to lyophilization, is prepared by adding water, preferably deionized or distilled water, to the anhydrous crystals prepared as above. The anhydrous crystals may be placed in sealed containers for storage or shipment prior to their use in pharmaceutical preparations, cosmetics and/or toiletries.
