Dental X-ray films.

A direct X-ray dental film comprises: (a) a transparent support; and (b) Ag halide (AgX) emulsion layers on both sides of the support for direct absorption of X-rays giving the low noise levels needed for dental diagnostics. Each AgX layer contains AgX grains of less than 5 mol l AgI coated at a Ag coverage of more than 7.5 (8.5-15 or 10-20) g/m2 in which more than 75% of the total projected area is contributed by tabular grains of average equiv circle dia (ECD) below 5 (3) mu m, average thickness less than 0.3mu m and average aspect ratio (AR) at least 5 (greater than 8).
