Conveyor belt cleaning method for food freezing

Cryogenic fluidised bed freezer has a porous conveyor belt (20) carrying already refrigerated material (18) to be frozen through a freezing compartment (12). Liq cryogen is supplied via a conduit (26) to a vaporiser (34) within the compartment. The resulting cryogen vapour is directed as jets (38) up through the belt. This removes accumulated ice from the belt. The cryogen may be liq. nitrogen. The vaporiser may be finned tubing. Cryogen may be supplied directly (30) to the chamber as well as via the vaporiser.
