PURPOSE:To provide a new MK8383 substance exhibiting strong antimicrobial action against wide variety of phytopathogenic molds and useful as an agricultural and horticultural agent, especially fungicide. CONSTITUTION:The MK8383 substance expressed by the formula I or its salt. The MK8383 substance of the formula I or its salt can be produced by culturing MK8383 substance-producing microorganism belonging to the genus Phoma, e.g. Phoma sp. T2526 (FERM P-13938) separated from fallen leaves and collecting the MK8383 substance from the culture product. The suitable culture method is culture under aerobic condition, especially solid culture and submerged culture. The MK8383 substance is separated from the culture product e.g. by extracting the cultured microbial cells with acetone-water, methanol-water, acetic acid, etc. The MK8383 substance is estimated to have the steric plane structure expressed by the formula II. The MK8383 substance is especially effective against gray mold, rice blast, sheath blight of rice, bakanae disease of rice, fusarium wilt of cucumber, etc., and is useful as a controlling agent for these blights. |
