PURPOSE:To provide new microbes which belong to Alcaligenes eutrophus, having ability to decompose trichloroethylene, capable of decomposing trichloroethylene contained in water or soil within several days, thus useful for cleaning water or soil. CONSTITUTION:Black chalk soil native to Isehara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, is exposed for a long time to a contaminated water containing artificially prepared trichloroethylene, part of the soil is then put into a vial followed by addition of an inorganic medium, trichloroethylene and toluene and then stoppering the vial. The resultant system is subjected to shaking culture at 30 deg.C, the trichloroethylene level in the vapor phase in the vial is analyzed by gas chromatography; a flat plate medium is then coated with the soil of the test system where trichloroethylene decay is found, and a culture of the colony developed is repeated, thus obtaining the objective new microbes having ability to decompose trichloroethylene such as Alcaligenes eutrophus KS01 (FERM P-13761). |
