1,200,313. Making composite strip. P. R. MALLORY & CO. Inc. 7 Dec., 1967 [9 Dec., 1966], No. 55733/67. Heading B3A. [Also in Division C7] Electrical contact material consisting of pre-oxidized silver-cadmium oxide strip having a microstructure in which there is a random particle size distribution of cadmium oxide with no zones depleted of cadmium oxide is made by (i) casting silver-cadmium shot, e.g. by subjecting molten alloy to an air-water stream, (ii) oxidizing the shot, e.g. by heating in air at 775-815‹ C., (iii) compacting the oxidized shot, and (iv) extruding to strip. If desired, the strip may be backed with silver by (i) tack-welding a silver strip to it, (ii) heating at preferably 775-825‹ C. for 10-20 minutes, and (iii) roll-bonding, reducing in thickness and levelling. Specification 1,085,996 is referred to. |
