A fastener for securing a carpet to a floor comprises a metal base plate 20, apertured for securing to the floor, and having staggered rows 25 of carpetengaging prongs 21 cut from the plate and pressed up, each prong when viewed along the line of the arrow B tapering from the root 21c towards a pointed tip 21a and having a leading edge 22 which is upwardly directed in the region of the tip 21a, has a convex shape over at least the uppermost third of its length, and is without convexity in the lowermost third of its length. In modifications, a clamping flange at one side of the plate is bent down to overlie an edge of a carpet impaled on the prongs, or a row of prongs is provided at each side of an upstanding rib of the plate.
