PURPOSE:To maintain a printing of an image at a high quality level by facilitating setting of conditions of transfer of both sublimable ink and melt ink, to reduce a thickness of a base film of a protective layer transfer ribbon and to maintain heat sensitivity high by separating the sublimable ink, wax black and the melt ink of the protective layer as individual transfer films. CONSTITUTION:The thermal transfer type printer comprises a first print section 20 for printing images under a thermal head 52 by thermal transfer on a sheet supplied from a sheet supply section by using transfer films sequentially repeatedly provided on three or more color base films of heat sublimable monochromatic ink layers of yellow, magenta, cyan, etc. Further, the printer comprises a second print section 30 for overcoating a protective layer with binary information of characters, etc., under a thermal head 62 by thermal transfer on the sheet formed with the image by the first section by using transfer films 68 in which a hot-melt ink layer WBk and a protective layer OC are sequentially repeatedly provided on the base film. |
