The present invention relates to an improved transmembrane loading procedure for efficient loading of drugs weak amphiphatic and chemicals into liposomes using the transmembrane gradient. The procedure is simple, efficient, safe, economical, and fast. The resulting liposomes loaded with the drug? or chemicals are stable and safe. A storagable form of loadable liposomes has extended period of stability. The procedure is equally applicable for sustained release of liposome-encapsulated drugs.
