<p>A method of recovering wool grease from spent liquor from the scouring of raw wool in aqueous soap or synthetic detergent solution comprises mixing spent scouring liquor while maintaining the original pH value with 1 to 10% by volume of an aliphatic or cyclic alcohol with 6 to 8 carbon atoms in the molecule, and mechanically separating the specifically heavier phase substantially free of wool grease from the specifically lighter phase consisting substantially of wool grease and of the alcohol added, from which wool grease is then recovered. The alcohol used may be an aliphatic hexanol, heptanol or octanol, cyclohexanol or benzyl alcohol. The separation may be by centrifuge.ALSO:A method of treating spent liquor from the scouring of raw wool in aqueous soap or synthetic detergent solutions comprises mixing spent scouring liquor, while maintaining the original pH value, with 1 to 10% by volume of an aliphatic or cyclic alcohol with 6 to 8 carbon atoms in the molecule, and mechanically separating the aqueous heavier phase from the lighter phase consisting substantially of wool grease and alcohol.
