The alkali cellulose was activated by permeating high concentration alkali homogeneously into the cellulose fine structures and then by bonding them each other. Because the weight ratio of alkali and cellulose and simultaneously the cellulose weight ratio against the water could be controlled, the activated alkali cellulose could be used as the raw material for manufacturing CMC, various cellulose ether, and its derivatives. The mixture of water vapour and air in reaction system was circulated compulsorily to separate the low temperature moisture and low temperature gases by cooling them.
