摘要 1,151,245. Washing containers. BURNETT & ROLFE Ltd. 12 Oct., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 49938/66. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F1] A temperature-sensitive device 70 responds to the arrival of pressurized steam in a drainage duct 38 to show that any liquid in a container has been exhausted and effects control of valves supplying washing liquid and steam for the washing of the beer keg 10 or like container. The inverted keg is moved on roller chains (5) and (6), Fig. 1 (not shown), until it contacts a switch when opening 20 is centered immediately above a washing head 11. This switch operates a pneumatic ram 12 and causes the head 11 to be raised and pressed against the neck 20 of the opening so that the keg is lifted off the chains and clamped between the head 11 and a stop formed by a main structure (13) so forming a seal between sealing rings 25 and 27. A tube 28 within the head is now pushed up by a pneumatic cylinder 30 so that it seals against a sealing ring 24 and pushes a spear 22 upwards in order to disengage the ring 24 from sealing ring 25. Inlet and outlet paths are now open to the keg; the inlet via duct 36, chamber 33 and the perforations 32 and 34; the outlet via perforations in the skirt 23, the clearance between sealing rings 24 and 25, chamber 35 and duct 38. Valves 30, 43, 49, 48, 51, 53 and 55 and the ram 12 are each connected to the main air supply (62), Fig. 3 (not shown), through solenoid-operated air valves which are electrically connected to, and controlled by, a sequence controller (69). The temperaturesensitive device 70 is connected also to this controller but via its own controller (71) which gives the necessary signal to indicate the completion of a steam cycle. The initial operation is the removal of any beer remaining in the keg by passing pressurized steam into it from valve 43 and discharging via valve 53. During the expulsion of any remaining beer the temperature of the probe 70 is such that no signal is produced; then the steam blows through duct 38, raising the temperature of the probe until a pre-determined level is reached, whereupon a signal is produced by the controller (71) which causes the sequence controller (69) to shut the steam valve and open the water supply valve 44 for a prewashing cycle. After a pre-determined time the water supply is shut off and the steam valve opened to blow any remaining water out of the keg. The steam and discharge valves are then shut and valves 48 and 55 opened to allow a metered volume of detergent to flow from a tank 49. The detergent is blown through the keg 10 and pipe 54 whence it is pumped to a storage tank and subsequently returned to the tank 49. After a pre-determined time valve 48 is closed and the steam valve opened to discharge all the detergent from the keg through the pipe 54 to the storage tank. The steam valve and valve 55 are then shut and the water and discharge valves opened so as to wash away any remaining traces of detergent. After a pre-determined time the water valve is shut and the steam valve opened to remove all the water from the keg. The signal to the sequence controller produced by the probe 70 after this final operation, will shut off the steam and lower the keg on to the chains to be conveyed away. Alternatively, the controller 71 may cause a filling operation to be started when the apparatus is incorporated in a filling machine.
