PURPOSE:To prevent resultant current from flowing in a switching element, improve power factor, and lower the manufacturing cost of a discharge lamp lighting apparatus by storing energy in a choke coil at output voltage of a full-wave rectifying circuit wherein the voltage is divided by a pair of capacitors into two. CONSTITUTION:The output voltage of a full-wave rectifying circuit 2 is divided by capacitors 25, 26 into two and electric current is led to a choke coil 31 through a switching element 8 and a diode 29 to store energy and charge a capacitor 23. Even if switching elements 7, 8 carry out ON/OFF operation, the resultant current of a chopper circuit and the current of an inverter circuit 3 do not flow in the element 8. Consequently, power factor is improved with a simple circuit structure and at the same time the elements 7, 8 are made extremely compact and manufacturing cost is lowered. |
