The invention relates to a device for detecting acid vapours contained in a gaseous medium to be monitored, including a detector containing a colorimetric material. This device comprises a mechanical structure (35) enclosing a leaktight measurement chamber (2) containing the detector (8), the mechanical structure being provided with conduits (3, 4) for access to the measurement chamber (2), in order to circulate on the detector a flow sampled from the gaseous medium, and comprising means (24) for emitting an incident light beam towards the detector, and means (25) for taking up the light beam reflected via the detector and for detecting the colour change of the colorimetric material, delivering a representative electrical signal, the measurement chamber (2) being equipped with windows (11, 13), which are resistant to the acid vapours, for transmission of the incident and reflected light beams. <IMAGE>
