1308158 Feeding record tapes; end detection MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 8 April 1970 [8 April 1969 9 April 1969] 16659/70 Heading G5R In a tape recorder, differential motion between a pressure roller 26, which urges the tape against a capstan 10, and a supplementary roller 48, which is pressed directly against the capstan, is sensed by a cam and cam-follower arrangement. The cam 50 (Fig. 3) and a pin 52 rotate with the roller 48, and a friction roller 58, which rotates with roller 26 and which has a friction bearing, biases the cam-follower 66 so that an attached tab 74 is not struck by the pin 52 during normal operation of the recorder. If however the tape stops, e.g. when using tapes fixed at both ends as in a cassette, the rollers 26 and 58 stop, the bias of the follower changes, and the pin 52 strikes the tab 74 to release a latching mechanism used to keep a movable plate 28, on which the head 34 and rollers are mounted, in an operative position. The sensing controls may also be adapted to provide an automatic reversal of the direction of tape movement. |
