PURPOSE:To provide an ultrasonic flaw detector capable of coping even with the inspection of a stainless steel sheet of different thickness, ensuring freedom from a dead band, and keeping a high signal-noise ratio. CONSTITUTION:This ultrasonic flaw detector is formed out of a probe body 11, a transmission element 12 fitted slantwise thereto for transmitting an ultrasonic wave at the preset refractive angle into a material 10 as a flaw detection object, and a receiving element 13 positioned on the probe body 11 at the same inclination angle as the element 12 on the opposite side of a transmission direction, separated from the element 12 at such a distance as capable of receiving an ultrasonic wave propagating between the inner and outer surface layers of the material 10 at a total reflection angle. Furthermore, the receiving element 13 is formed to be capable of freely coming near and parting from the transmission element 12. Also, a specified position indicator member 11c is laid to specify the distance of the element 13 from the element 12, so as to correspond to the thickness of the material 10, or both elements 12 and 13 are focusing type. |
