1,061,592. Motor vehicle brakes; transmission gearing. Nov. 21, 1963 [Nov. 23, 1962], No. 46032/63. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F2] In a motor vehicle having steerable or non- steerable wheels driven from a differential 10 through half-shafts 2 and bevel drives 11, 12<SP>1</SP> and 11<SP>1</SP>, 12, one bevel wheel 12, 12<SP>1</SP> of each drive rotates relative to the differential input shaft 14, and one or each bevel wheel 12, 12<SP>1</SP> is connected to a sleeve 17, 17<SP>1</SP> which extends beyond the gear housing 9 and carries the rotatable member of a brake for the respective wheel. As shown, the bevel wheels 12, 12<SP>1</SP> are splined to the sleeves 17, 17<SP>1</SP> which extend from the differential output bevels 16, 16<SP>1</SP> and both carry discs 20, 20<SP>1</SP> braked by hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders 21, 22 and 21<SP>1</SP>, 22<SP>1</SP>. The input shaft 14 is inclined so that the bevel gears 12, 12<SP>1</SP> each mesh with only one of crown gears 11 on the half-shafts 2. The wheel hubs 5 are driven from the half-shafts 2 through reduction gearing 1 comprising a pinion 3 on the half-shaft meshing with a plurality of pinions 4 driving a toothed flange 6 on the hub. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) only one sleeve 17 is provided with a brake disc and a second disc adjacent thereto is secured to a rearward extension of the input shaft 14. |
