PURPOSE:To decrease gradation inversion and to realize display of a wide visual angle with the 90 deg. TN type liquid crystal display device for which a double refraction mode is used by arranging biaxial phase difference films between a liquid crystal panel and polarizing plates. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display device is formed by sticking biaxial films 301, 303 which are formed by stretching thin films of a polycarbonate to polarizing plates 300, 304 to each other respectively with tacky adhesives and further, laminating the biaxial films 301, 303 on the liquid crystal panel 302. At this time, the liquid crystal display device is so formed that the axes 305, 310 of polarization of the polarizing plates 300, 304 form respectively 45 deg. angle with rubbing directions 307, 308 adjacent to the liquid crystal panel 302. The axes 305, 310 of polarization are so set as to intersect orthogonally with each other. Further, the thickness of the used biaxial films is 100mum and a relation nx>ny>nz holds when the refractive indices in the film plane are defined as nx, ny and the refractive index in the film thickness direction is defined as nz. |
