PURPOSE:To prevent overheating and backflow of refrigerant and a refrigerant heater at the time of varying an indoor air temperature an air flow rate. CONSTITUTION:The refrigerant heating heater/cooler comprises a heat receiver 15 for transmitting heat from a burner 14 to refrigerant, a compressor 11 for circulating the refrigerant to the receiver through refrigerant pipe 16, a refrigerant temperature thermistor 17 for detecting a refrigerant temperature in the pipe, and a controller 18 for controlling the compressor 11 and the burner 14 based on a signal from the thermistor 17. The thermistor 17 is so disposed at a position that it does not receive influences of radiation heat from the burner and heat conduction from the receiver and that the refrigerant in the pipe effectively becomes a gas-liquid two-phase. Accordingly, the accurate evaporating temperature of the refrigerant in a refrigerant heater can be detected a burner heater quantity and a refrigerant circulating amount to be controlled based on its information can be matched in good balance to prevent overheating of the refrigerant and the heater and backflow to the compressor.
