It comprises, in an external armour (10), a ceramic layer (16) lined with metal plates (30, 32; 36) at the front and at the rear constituting a means of kinetically disturbing an incident projectile. The external armour (10) is followed at a certain distance, by forming a clearance gap, by a splinter trap (40) (it comprises a forward aluminium plate (48) and a laminated rear layer (50)). A steel plate (46) constitutes a braking layer and subdivides the clearance gap into a forward zone and an rear zone. <IMAGE>
