Liquid cleansing compositions comprise (a) 0.5-5 wt. per cent of at least one C2-4 aliphatic alcohol having a b.p. not above 100 DEG C., (b) 0.5-5 wt. per cent of at least one higher boiling solvent having a b.p. not above 250 DEG C. which is a C2-6 glycol and/or polyglycol, and/or a C1-4 alkyl ether of a C3-8 glycol, (c) 0.05-0.5 wt. per cent of a compatible surfactant, (d) 0.005-0.5 wt. per cent of an alkali metal polyphosphate, and (c) the balance soft water. Suitable alcohols and higher boiling solvents are exemplified. The surfactant may be anionic, non-ionic or amphoteric, including sodium salts of sulphated fatty alcohols, sulphated fatty oils or esters, alkylaryl sulphonates and sulphated polyoxyethylene/fatty alcohol condensates, and polyethylene oxide condensates with fatty alcohols or alkyl phenols. The compositions may also contain ammonia or morpholine, and are used for cleaning smooth surfaces such as glass, ceramics, and metals. |
