The present invention relates to a manual probe for ultrasonic cartographic inspection of articles, of the type including a casing (1) intended to be arranged adjacent to the surface of an article to be tested, and including at least one ultrasonic transducer (13), characterised in that the probe includes at least one wheel (19), driven in rotation by friction on the article to be examined, and driving in rotation an encoder (23) delivering an electrical signal which is a function of the rotation, at least two guide wheels (5, 6) for providing displacement in translation, the transducer (13) being secured to a block (14) which can be adjusted in height in order to fix the resting position of the transducer (13) relative to the surface of the article to be examined. <IMAGE>
