A rotating shutter disk for inlet stroke regulation in two-stroke engine is composed of two slidingly overlapping sector disks (11, 12), solidly connected to assembly bushes (13, 14), one provided with a left-handed helicoidal toothing and the other with a right-handed helicoidal toothing. The disk sectors carrying bushes (13, 14) engage on cooperating left-handed and right-handed, helicoidal toothings of a hub (15), splined to a splined end (5s) of the engine shaft (5). The hub (15) may be slidingly moved along the splined end (5s) of the engine shaft (5) through a rotatably mounted actuating stem (16). Upon shifting the hub (15) longitudinally along the shaft (5) axis, the bush-mounted disk sectors (11, 12) are forced to rotate in opposite directions, thus varying the angular amplitude of the rotating shutter of the inlet duct (8). Continuous stroke regulation is actuated through the rotatably mounted stem (16) while the engine is running. A CPU may regulate the stroke in function of the istantaneous values of a plurality of parameters, in accordance with a certain algorithm for real-time optimization of engine performance.
