DENTAL CARTRIDGE EXTRUDER WITH RIGID FRONT END

A manual dental extruder or syringe gun (12) having a front end (10) with rigid side walls (38) and an opening (40) therein adapted to receive a dental cartridge (48), capsule, ampule or tip having a flange (52). The body portion (50) of the cartridge (48) has a diameter less than that of the lateral width of the opening (40) in the rigid side walls (38) so that the dental cartridge (48) can easily be dropped therein. At one end of the cartridge opening (40) is a flange retainer (44). After dropping the dental cartridge (48) in the front end (10), the cartridge (48) is slid forward into the flange retainer (44). A portion of the rigid side walls (38) extend over the flange (52) when the dental cartridge (48) is in position to be extruded. The rigid side walls (38) improve the durability and strength of the dental extruder and prevents the dental cartridge (48) from being pushed through the end of the extruder due to the large longitudinal forces required to extrude viscous dental materials.
