Safety steering column arrangement

A safety steering column device contains a mechanical device (10, 16) which ensures a predetermined steering-wheel position when reducing the spacing between the scuttle (1) of the vehicle and the upper steering-column bearing (9) in the case of a telescoping steering column (4). As essential components this device contains a two-armed lever (10) which extends between the scuttle (1) and upper steering-column bearing (9) and the two arms (11, 12) of which close a downwardly open angle. The thus formed apex (13) of the lever (10) is connected, by way of a pull cable (16), to the upper steering-column part (6) with the result that in the event of a reduction, caused by a crash, in the distance between the scuttle (1) and upper steering-column bearing (9) the steering wheel (3) assumes a predetermined position. <IMAGE>
